Sonia J. Lupien, Ph.D.
Founder and director, Center for Studies on Human Stress, Fernand-Seguin Research Center.
Sonia Lupien has dedicated her efforts to gaining a better understanding of how stress, and stress hormones affect how we learn and remember information and the brain. Sonia Lupien’s groundbreaking work in humans led to the discovery that high levels of stress hormones in older adults are linked to both memory impairments and a reduction in size or atrophy of the hippocampus - a brain structure critically involved in memory.
