Combining business with pleasure

September 09, 2009

Last August 17, the Foundation of the Louis-H. Lafontaine Hospital held the sixth edition of its Golf Open at the Boucherville Golf Club, under the honorary presidency of François Castonguay, Chairman of the Board of the Foundation and President and CEO of Uniprix. An amount of $82,000 was raised thanks to the generosity of the 132 golfers and numerous sponsors.

Along with playing for a good cause, the golfers were treated to refreshments all along the course. They also had the opportunity to participate in a draw for a trip to Tunisia, to benefit from the expertise of massage therapists and to improve their knowledge of mental health by completing the questionnaire prepared by students at the Fernand-Seguin Research Centre of the Louis-H. Lafontaine Hospital.

During the cocktail at the end of the day, the Foundation presented the 2009 edition of the GenPharm recognition award, which is given to employees who have distinguished themselves in their discipline. This year, the honour was bestowed on Jean Lepage, Communications and Community Relations Consultant at the Louis-H. Lafontaine Hospital. Marius St-Pierre, District Manager, Special and Hospital Products for GenPharm, paid tribute to Mr. Lepage, describing him as a “vigilant, receptive man with a lively imagination, who supports the management of the Hospital and the Foundation in fulfilling their mission and promoting their development.” For the Foundation, this award highlights and recognizes Jean Lepage’s daily commitment to sustaining the development of the organization for the benefit of people with mental illnesses.

The Foundation also took advantage of this event to present the Chairman of the board, Gilles Lépine, the Director General of the Louis-H. Lafontaine Hospital, André Lemieux, as well as the Scientific Director, Dr. Sonia Lupien, with a subsidy of $1,005,659 in order to support the activities of the establishment in 2009-2010. This represents a summit, reached thanks to the dedication and generosity of the members of the board, to the leadership of its chairman, François Castonguay, and to the numerous donors. This amount will enable the development of research projects in mental health, contribute to the well-being of patients and support the ongoing transfer of knowledge.

A special vote of thanks to the team of volunteers, made up of employees of the Hospital and the Research Centre, and representatives from our sponsors, who, thanks to their excellent work and enthusiasm, made a huge contribution to the success of this event.
