IPT approach

Integrated psychological treatment (IPT) — which was developed by Brenner and his colleagues in 1992 in Bern, Switzerland, for patients with schizophrenia.

The theoretical bases of IPT are part of a holistic understanding of psychotic disorders, based in particular on the vulnerability-stress model. The authors, however, enriched the concept of "vulnerability", stressing the relationship of interdependence between cognitive and social dysfunctions.

IPT is a distinctive and practical approach to rehabilitation. What sets IPT apart from other treatments is that it can integrate classic approaches of developing social skills with new approaches of managing neurocognitive deficits and cognitive bias for patients with schizophrenia.
