Les stages postdoctoraux de Christian Joyal lui permirent de s'initier à l'imagerie par résonance magnétique fonctionnelle et structurale.  En collaboration avec le détenteur de la chaire en schizophrénie, Dr. Emmanuel Stip, il analyse actuellement des données d'imagerie par résonance magnétique recueillies chez des personnes violentes atteintes de schizophrénie en Finlande, en Allemagne et au Canada.
