Les travaux de Gilles Côté portent sur les facteurs associés aux comportements violents chez les personnes présentant un trouble mental grave. À ce chapitre, il a validé la version française de la HCR-20, un instrument d'évaluation et de gestion du risque de comportements violents. Il s'intéresse aussi à la psychopathie.
