Sonia Lupien s’intéresse aux effets du stress au cours d’une vie et a mené des études chez les enfants et les jeunes adultes. Ses études ont démontré que même les enfants sont vulnérables aux effets du stress, et que certains sécrètent des taux élévés d’hormones dès l’âge de 6 ans. Ses études chez les jeunes adultes l’ont menée à une découverte intéressante. Dans certaines conditions, des niveaux élevés de stress peuvent être bénéfiques. C’est une question d’équilibre : trop de stress peut être aussi nuisible que pas assez.
Sonia Lupien travaille désormais sur des façons de détecter et de prévenir les troubles reliés au stress chez les personnes de tous âges.
