The last issue of University of Montreal’s Forum reports the results of a research project that included two authors who are members of the Centre for Studies on Human Stress; namely, Dr. Sonia Lupien and one of her graduate student, Geneviève Arsenault-Lapierre. The research project demonstrates how introducing a MIRA dog into the lives of autistic children can decrease their cortisol levels, an important stress hormone, and also considerably decrease different problematic behavior among these children.
