Dr. Emmanuel Stip Appointed Head of Université de Montréal’s Department of Psychiatry

On June 1, Dr. Emmanuel Stip, a psychiatrist and clinician-researcher at Hôpital Louis-H. Lafontaine since 1992, was appointed as head of the department of psychiatry in the Université de Montréal’s faculty of medicine. He was given a four-year mandate.
The department of psychiatry is responsible for numerous teaching programs, as well as the development of research within its network.
Dr. Stip is the Eli Lilly Canada Chair in Schizophrenia Research at the Université de Montréal. His research projects focus on the relationships between different branches of neuroscience, the functioning of the brain and clinical research, as well as addressing psychosocial factors and the development of care services. Moreover, Dr. Stip is deeply involved in developing programs to integrate individuals with schizophrenia into the community. A degree holder and specialist in psychiatry, Dr. Stip also specializes in neuropsychology in the neurological science department at the Côte-des-Neiges Hospital Research Centre and obtained a Master’s of Science degree from the Université de Montréal. In addition, he holds an undergraduate degree in philosophy.
The nomination is a testament to Dr. Stip’s comprehensive understanding of key current issues in the areas of both practice and research, and it undoubtedly reflects the extent to which he is appreciated in the field. We wish him all the best in his new role.
