Profile

Gilles Côté is a criminologist (B.Sc.) and psychologist. His main topics of research interest include risk factors associated with violent behaviour and, more specifically, psychopathy. His current project concerns the epidemiology of mental disorders, personality disorders and intellectual deficiency among federal male inmates, with a focus that extends beyond prevalence to service issues. This project comprises a genetic and neurobiological component in relation to impulsivity, carried out in collaboration with Gustavo Turecki and Gabriella Gobbi. Together with Anne Crocker, Gilles Côté is also involved in two projects in forensic mental health settings. The first concerns screening and service integration of forensic patients with intellectual disability, and the second examines predispositions, resources and service trajectories among individuals found not criminally responsible on account of mental disorder in Quebec (PI: Anne Crocker). The latter project has been extended to British Columbia and Ontario. He is also part of a Fonds québécois de la recherche pour la société et la culture (FQRSC) research team investigating intellectual disability, pervasive disorders and intersectoriality (PI: Céline Mercier).
